Where did you study counseling?
I attended St. Edward’s University to earn a Master of Arts degree in Counseling.
Why did you choose to go in counseling?
For years I’d heard that I should be a teacher, a lawyer or a counselor. The counselor suggestion rang true within me, so after raising my three sons, I went back to school to earn a master’s in counseling. I have always felt compassion for women who were struggling with life issues which are often accompanied by depression and anxiety. I knew that they needed someone to hear them, to listen non-judgmentally and to help them find their answers from within. I am especially drawn to treating women who struggle with imposter syndrome.
How would you describe your counseling style?
I am a very engaged therapist who will work collaboratively with you to reach your counseling goals. Therapy is a fluid and dynamic experience with me rather than a process that follows a set pattern. I will support your efforts to heal and to grow in a dynamic and caring way.
How do you offer your services?
I counsel my clients via online therapy. From my experience, online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. I have been counseling online for several years and find that both my clients and I prefer it over in-person counseling, mainly for convenience reasons.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not. In not taking insurance, I better protect your confidentiality and privacy. Your insurance company will require me to provide your diagnosis and progress notes for each session. Additionally, sometimes people want to consult a therapist for personal growth and exploration; however, insurance companies do not allow this. Everyone who consults a therapist and uses their insurance must have a mental health diagnosis. Not only does that infringe on your confidentiality and privacy, it also sets limits on the reasons you may seek therapy in the first place. Some additional limits set by insurance companies are the amount of sessions you may have and whether you will be approved to receive therapy or not.
What is your life like outside of work?
My husband and I like to spend time outdoors with our rescue Pomeranian, Sweety. I also enjoy reading and travel, especially to places with a beach!
